My Letter to Elvis

Below is a letter I wrote to Elvis I thought I would share. I hope it touches your heart.

Near the bottom of this page, you’ll find a soft piano rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” It may not be Elvis’s voice, but the melody still carries the tenderness and grace he brought into the world.

Dear Elvis,

While I never got the chance to see you, my mother did. She's shared so many of her memories of you with me over the years. She clearly loved you. She's told me of the time she met you and how you literally gave her back her self-esteem after having been in a very bad marriage. You see, if you hadn't told her she was a pretty lady; she wouldn't have gotten the courage to date again and she wouldn't have met my dad and had me. So, I have you to thank for being here.

I recall being about to start college some years back and I caught a show about you on television. It blew me away. I never realized just how much of an impact you made. Anyway, I got curious and well, I fell in love with you just like my mother did all those years ago. I was finally able to see what my mother did, and I discovered a not only quite handsome, but a kind, generous man who carried his faith in God with him. No wonder my mother was so crazy about you. She saw in you something that obviously touched her heart.

I must say I detest it that people said such nasty things about you. That's just wrong. Like I learned from Fred Rogers as a child, being kind is of utmost importance. Yeah, those folks could have learned that if they'd chosen to.

As the past several years passed, I somehow walked away from you. Yeah, I know, how could I do that after falling so in love with you. Suffice it to say, stuff happened and I made a bad decision. Well, sometimes our Lord has a way of getting your attention in a way you don't expect. I was listening to a song that I've listened to many times since I was a teenager, Let's Try It Again by my favorite boy band, New Kids On The Block, something in that song got my attention. Don't ask me how that happened, but it made me realize I could never leave you for good.

So, I managed to re-discover why I fell in love with you when I was a young college girl. I'm back with you Elvis and I still Love you Tender.

Forever Loving You,
Reshae
